MiniBlog Platform

This was my very first professional project during my internship so I was nervous but also super excited to dive in. The brief from my mentor was simple: “Design a mini blog platform where users can create, edit, and share blogs.”

But the first thing that came to mind was: “Honestly, who even has the patience to read long blogs these days?” People’s attention spans are shrinking, and nobody wants to feel left out when conversations happen around trending topics. Even one or two lines about something can save people from that little FOMO moment.

That’s where the idea clicked: A blogging experience that’s light, quick, and fresh something between a tweet and a traditional blog.

research & insights.

Since this was a short project, I focused on secondary research:

  • Looked at existing platforms like Medium and WordPress they felt heavy, text-dense, and not made for casual readers.

  • Read surveys and articles confirming that Gen Z and young professionals prefer shorter, crisp content.

  • Took inspiration from apps like Inshorts, which solve the attention-span problem really well.

From this, I defined my target users:

  • Students and Gen Z: Want to share quick reflections and stay updated without reading walls of text.

  • Young professionals: Want to post short insights, but with a clean and distraction-free interface.

design direction.

I didn’t want it to feel like “yet another blogging page.”
One day while writing an email, I realized how familiar and simple Gmail’s compose box feels. That sparked the idea: Why not design blog composing like sending an email? Familiar, fast, and focused.

  • Typography: Poppins → clean and modern.

  • Colors: Minimal palette to keep the focus on content.

  • Principles: Minimalism, readability, responsiveness.

  • Design decision: Keep it light so it works seamlessly across both low-end and high-end devices.

user flow.

The flow was designed to feel effortless:

  1. Landing page → Discover blogs.

  2. Sign up / Log in → Minimal form.

  3. Compose blog → Gmail-inspired compose box.

  4. Post & Browse → Seamlessly share and discover bite-sized blogs.

wireframes to finalDesigns.

I started with samples and rough ideas in mind, then built them up into wireframes. Iterations came after feedback from my mentor, mostly around layout tweaks and user perspective improvements.

  • Wireframes: Simple structures to map the flow.

  • Final Screens: Clean dashboard, compose box for blogs, responsive mobile-first design.

feedback.

I shared the designs with my mentor, who pointed out subtle but important layout and usability details I had overlooked. That experience taught me how much every detail matters in design, especially when seen from the user’s perspective.

Feedback I loved most: “This feels fresh.”
That was exactly the experience I wanted users to have.

reflection.

This project taught me a lot about:

  • Balancing simplicity with functionality.

  • How even small design choices (like using a familiar “compose” layout) can make a product instantly more user-friendly.

  • The importance of mentor/user feedback in shaping better designs.

For now, the platform focuses only on posting and viewing blogs. If I take it forward, I’d love to expand it with more features like reactions, sharing, or personalized discovery while still keeping it light and minimal.

key takeaway.

Even something as ordinary as blogging can feel new and fresh if approached with empathy, simplicity, and a focus on real user frustrations.
